SOLIDWORKS MBD

Communicate Product and Manufacturing Information Directly in 3D

SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition (MBD) provides an industry standard drawing-less solution to manufacturing your products. It allows the creation of Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI). All the PMI data remains stored in the 3D model and can be communicated via SOLIDWORKS, eDrawings, 3D PDF and STEP 242 files. MBD is industry standard, will help to reduce errors whilst increasing productivity and shortening lead times. View more >

SOLIDWORKS MBD attaches data to your 3D Models such as dimensions, surface finishes, geometric tolerances, welding symbols, notes, BOMs and a variety of annotations. Because all of this information required for manufacture is stored in the 3D CAD model, a traditional 2D drawing is no longer required. All stages of production can extract the information they require from the Product and Manufacturing Information data or PMI, generated from SOLIDWORKS MBD. This supports industry standards such as Military-Standard-31000A, ASME Y14.41, ISO 16792, and DIN ISO 16792.

Key Features

Define PMI Directly in 3D Using SOLIDWORKS MBD

Due to its 3D Data interrogation, Meta properties and interactivity, SOLIDWORKS MBD will reduce lead times by avoiding resource consuming 2D detailing. PMI contained in the 3D model will speed up the communication process by sharing information from one source, furthermore, avoid human errors of duplication.

Structured, Clean 3D Presentations

Use SOLIDWORKS MBD to organise and structure your feature rich data to create 3D presentations with many different views and display settings. SOLIDWORKS MBD will intelligently hide and show 3D annotations, as the model is rotated, to present your designs with the clarity that you intended, whilst maintaining all the critical functions and annotations for production.

Customise Your Templates For 3D Output

Customise the 3D Output by creating a variety of templates that are suitable for different department. Customisation includes a company or group logo, change the position of the 3D viewport and re arrange thumbnail images to suit your individual set up. Add some tables, meta property links and text descriptions which can themselves be editable regions enhancing your communication process. These templates, once set up, can serve as an internal and external workflow procedure or as a guideline for all departments within the design to manufacture and delivery process. Alternatively, SOLIDWORKS MBD contains a comprehensive set of predefined templates.

Easy 3D Output and Distribution

SOLIDWORKS MBD allows the publication of widely accepted file formats such as eDrawings®, 3D PDF and STP242. Create eDrawings to view in the free eDrawings viewer, 3D PDF files can be opened in Adobe Reader which again is free and widely used across the world. Interrogate the model in 3D using Pan, Zoom, Rotate, Measure, Section, and other 3D tools. This will increase the quality of information that you are providing to your internal and external customers, more clarity, reduce errors, better communication, and cut lead time.

MBD Compliance With Industry Standards

SOLIDWORKS MBD will help you comply with industry standards, such as ASME Y14.41 and the Military-Standard-31000A, ISO 16792, ISO 10303-242, ISO 14739, and so on. Use this compliance to give you a competitive advantage, winning more contracts and delivering projects, often to strict requirements, on time and on budget.
