Until recently, the frame design team worked in 2D, utilising AutoCad drafting software. However after trialling an evaluation copy of SolidWorks, Martin says it was clear that a 3D design package was going to provide many benefits to their design, manufacture and operating efficiency.
GPlan has been operating SolidWorks now for a little over six months. Martin attended a Five day certified course and then further taught himself, such is the ease of use of SolidWorks. Martin says, “We are already benefiting as a company from easier product visualisation, improved component and assembly accuracy, ability to identify and use similar / modular
components, reduced design and build time.”
Introducing any new software system is likely to raise operating questions. Martin adds,
“Our successful adoption of the SolidWorks system has been achieved with the help of our
service provider NT CADCAM Ltd. If ever I have questions I simply e-mail their support
team and within 10 minutes they are accurately guiding me through the operating solution.
It’s an excellent service!”
Martin is now planning to utilise SolidWorks PDM capabilities to manage the thousands
of frame components available to his team and says, “With NT CADCAM Ltd’s support
we are confident of further improving our operating procedures and efficiency.”
